PHILANTHROPY- BOSOM BUDDIES

BOSOM BUDDIES- MARCH 11TH, 2011

One in eight women will experience some form of breast cancer in their lifetime. Chances are you probably know someone who has fought this disease. As education regarding breast cancer awareness increases, so do fundraising efforts worldwide. I was lucky to be able to be a part of a monumental fundraising effort during my time at Davidson College. My eating house, a sorority- like group of around 150 girls, took on breast cancer awareness as its main cause. Bosom Buddies, founded in 2001, is the largest student run philanthropic event in Davidson history. The event is held each spring, and consists of a dinner, speaker, and live and silent auctions. The first time the event was held, the girls raised $3,000. This year, Connor House wants to top 2010’s $50,000 fundraising record by raising $55,000. Funds directly benefit Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test. The FFEBCT website states that it is the “only breast cancer organization whose sole purpose is to find a new method for earlier pre-tumor detection of breast cancer.”

During my time at Davidson, I learned so much about the disease and fundraising efforts surrounding it. When I graduated, I wanted to be able to continue with my contributions to breast cancer research and awareness. Therefore, with Prippie™, came the Prippie™ in Pink for Breast Cancer campaign, a ribbon bracelet sale with proceeds benefiting the Bosom Buddies fundraiser. Prippie™ recently made the first donation from the sales, along with the donation of a pair of earrings for the silent auction.

This year's Bosom Buddies event will be held this Saturday, March 11th, at Davidson College, Davidson, NC.
